Hip Hop Community

In today's world the hip-hop community is a perfect example of the age old good versus evil or light versus dark. Hip-hop in the community and how it affects it is often driven by artists from the area. The light side of hip-hop in the community is seen in artists such as Nas, Jay-Z, and Common. Artists such as these often use their influence to promote education and good morals in their fan base. They are largely responsible for a movement of improvement and charity in their home towns as well as those which they have a large fan basis.

Unfortunately you cannot have light without the dark and there are many artists which promote just the opposite, inspiring illicit sexual acts and drug usage. Often, but not always these artists are promoting gangs and personal quarrels. The influence that gangs have had on the hip-hop scene have been extreme, ranging from movement for radical improvement of community to destructive almost warfare related violence that is most often driven and promoted by artists involved in the gangs in question. When it comes to charity, few others in the world have the power to raise aid for a community like a popular hip-hop artist does.

Their fans, who are often very dedicated, tend to do just about anything whether it be copying the clothes they wear and using the products they endorse, or living they way they see their favorite artist living in the media. Many people would argue that the darker side of hip-hop in the community is destroying it but just as many would say that the good it brings more than counter balances it. It is the timeless struggle of dark and light that can be found in almost anything, not even hip-hop escapes this nature.
